Announcing the First $10,000 Hometown Scholarship Recipient!

The Burger King Foundation is dedicated to empowering communities through education and providing support when it’s needed most. One of our flagship initiatives, the BK Scholars program, provides scholarships to deserving high school students, Burger King Team Members, and their families. This spring, we marked an exciting milestone in our commitment to educational advancement with the launch of the first-ever $10,000 Hometown Scholarship, created exclusively for Burger King Team Members based in South Florida. We’re proud to share that Ryan M., a standout high school senior and valued Team Member at the Hillsboro Boulevard Burger King, was selected as the inaugural recipient.

Ryan, who joined Burger King in 2023, has consistently demonstrated exceptional dedication both in the workplace and the classroom. Maintaining a perfect 4.0 GPA, he exemplifies the values of hard work, perseverance, and a drive to succeed—making him a natural choice for this prestigious award.

To celebrate his achievement, a surprise ceremony was held on April 5 at Ryan’s Burger King location. His family, coworkers, and members of the Burger King leadership team came together to recognize his hard-earned success. Tom Curtis, President of Burger King US&C, and Katie M. Lewis, Executive Director of the Burger King Foundation, were on hand to personally present Ryan with the scholarship check.

Ryan plans to enroll at the University of Central Florida this fall, and we’re confident he’ll continue to excel in all he sets out to do. His journey reflects the very heart of what the Hometown Scholarship—and the Burger King Foundation—stands for: supporting our own, lifting up future leaders, and making education more accessible to those who earn it through passion and perseverance.
